Excellently ran. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Mr. Pickle was not only caring about bruiser who we adopted but made sure he was a good for for our other dog. If only all shelters had this much to offer their animals. Best charity I know to give to.
I recently adopted a kitten from this shelter. Upon checkout, I was informed the kitten's mom recently came down with a URI, but there was a small chance my cat would get it. Otherwise, they informed me she was healthy and up to date on shots. So I went ahead and paid the $85 adoption fee and we happily took her home. A few days later we took her to the vet and were informed that 1) He was actually a she. 2) She was not up to date on shots 3) Had a URI (upper respiratory infection) 4) Had ear mites 5) Had tapeworms. The vet bill came out to be $260 and the kitten is still very sick. I am very curious what the $35 adoption fee covers, as it obviously doesn't cover vaccinations and overall health of the animals. The only positive coming out of this is we were able to give a kitten a good home instead of her being stuck in that unhealthy environment. Contacted the staff and they were unapologetic.
I adopted our family dog from here. Staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. I am glad these animals are given a chance at a restart to a good life. Everyone should give this place a look when looking for a fury friend for their home.
My experience here was rather disheartening. I wanted to adopt One of three dogs I had been looking at. However, not only where the people who worked at the counter extremely rude, I also found that they had an extremely flawed adoption system. It all seems pretty normal. You put in an application that checks you out and makes sure you're a decent human being who doesn't abuse animals, and if you have the financial means to take care of them etc. However, unlike a normal shelter where if one person puts an application in for a particular dog generally if everything checks out you get to take the dog home, but nope not at this shelter. It's not a first come first serve basis. They put you in a running, and whoever they think would be the best for that dog gets the dog. Now in theory I think they were trying to do something good... but in theory it still sucks. This is why this sucks, If two people want the same dog and they are both equally qualified what do you do? they both want to give this dog or cat a loving home, they both have put in time in picking a dog or cat of their choosing, and it's like a slap to the face if you're hoping and ready to bring home your new best friend but instead they handed him/her off to somebody else, because someone said they were a little more qualified than you. Not that you would actually get to talk to anyone to even get an adoption form in, I must say they have the snottiest blonde heavyset receptionist I have ever met. Next time you're busy at least acknowledge that you know that there somebody there. Gives the sense that you actually care, but other than that majority of the staff was kind and I hope all the dogs get adopted because they deserve good homes .
I love coming here to see the cats and dogs. I'm currently not in a position to get an animal but I still go because you can take a dog out for a walk or sit and play with the cats. It's great for them and helps me lower my stress level!
